Finger Pointing
Tool Should Be Used By:
Coaches
Tool
Description: Based on the old saying "If you are pointing your finger
at someone else, you have three fingers pointing back at you!"
I have created a graphic organizer. The
index finger points to the problem the client sees as outside of his/her
control. The other three fingers pointing back are behaviors, thoughts, changes,
etc. within the client's control that contribute to the problem situation. The
thumb is slightly bent down overlapping the top of the middle finger (the top of
the three pointing back). It serves to identify the overriding belief that must
be changed. Clients write on the fingers and thumb. Clients can see at a glance
a bigger picture and the part they play in it. They can use their own hand later
as a reminder of the form and what they can do about the problem.
